Link PAN with Aadhaar Online
As per CBDT guidelines, it is mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar. Failure to do so will make your PAN “Inoperative”.

Check Status ➔What happens if PAN is NOT Linked?
Your PAN will become Inoperative, leading to these issues:

How to Link PAN-Aadhaar & Pay ₹1000 Fee
Since the free deadline has passed, you must pay the penalty via Challan No./ITNS 280. Follow these steps:
Click the “Link PAN Now” button above to go to eportal.incometax.gov.in. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and click ‘Validate’.
If not linked, you will see a popup “Payment details not found”. Click on “Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax”.
- Assessment Year: Select “2024-25” (Current Year).
- Type of Payment: Select “Other Receipts (500)”.
- Amount: It will automatically show ₹1000.
Pay using Net Banking, Debit Card, or UPI. Once successful, download the Challan Receipt.
Wait for 4-5 days (sometimes instant) for payment to reflect. Go back to the “Link Aadhaar” page, enter details again. This time it will verify payment and send a request to UIDAI for final linking.
Who is Exempt from Linking?
The following categories of people do NOT need to pay or link:
- Citizens residing in Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, and Meghalaya.
- Non-residents (NRIs) as per Income Tax Act.
- Super Senior Citizens (Age 80 years or above).
- Foreign nationals residing in India.

Q: Can I link PAN with Aadhaar for free?
No, the deadline for free linking expired on 30th June 2022. Currently, you have to pay a late fee of ₹1000.
Q: My payment is done but status says “Not Linked”. Why?
Payment and Linking are two steps. After paying, you must visit the portal again to submit the “Link Request”. Also, payment reflection can take up to 48 hours.
Q: Name mismatch in PAN and Aadhaar. What to do?
If there is a mismatch, the linking will fail. You must first correct your name in either PAN (via NSDL) or Aadhaar (via UIDAI) to make them match exactly.
